Spinning

Today was a rather typical day around here. Breakfast, play, work, lunch, play, run to a spinning class etc. The spinning class is not the kind that you participate in at the gym. This is a class where you make fiber (wool) into yarn and then can knit or crochet with the end product. Cool huh? Tavia ,my eight year old, seems to think so.

She sat with a lady about her grandmother's age who taught her how to spin with a drop-spindle. The lady, Elizabeth, also informed Tavia that she would need a smaller, more balanced spindle. That is all Tavia needed to hear. Now she can go spend more of my money.

It never ceases to amaze me the conversations that can come about when a group of women get together. This group of spinsters (yes, that is the proper term for a lady that spins fiber) was no different. I expected to hear about who was spinning what types of fiber and other information about yarn making, but it didn't end there. There was an in depth conversation about hurricanes and the shade of green that the clouds become when one is near. One lady described it as "evil personified in a cloud" WOW, that is heavy stuff. They talked about the diets that each lady was trying out. At this point, I jumped in on the conversation and stated that we are all always on some kind of diet. Mine at this point is called "my kids only eat peanut butter sandwiches" diet.  All in all the afternoon was very enjoyable and Tavia is eager to go back.

So as to not leave out the little people in my life, Audra slept through the entire spinning class while Nelle and Malaki played with their cousins. After much wailingg and gnashing of teeth, (because it is so much fun playing at someone else's house) we headed home.

Here goes ...

I am starting a blog ... let me say that again so it sinks in (for me). I am starting a blog. This is a big step for me. I love the idea of journals and diaries and blogs and memoir etc, that is if someone else is writing them.

I started a journal when my first daughter was born with the hope that I would write in it throughout her life and then present it to her on the day her first child was born. The outcome of that endeavor? FAIL, epic fail to be precise. I have already written/rewritten this first post three times. I am uncertain that I will actually finish and post this, but I do have high hopes!!

The motivation for this blog is SocialSpark. They pay you to place advertisements on your blog and to write reviews of various products. Who couldn't use a little extra cash? Mine will be used for the vacation jar. I'm gonna take a vacation with that hot husband of mine one day ... Who am I kidding, the money will probably go to fix the toilet that broke last night. But you know? I am perfectly okay with that. I love this old house and the four monkey children that I am privileged to spend each day with. My husband is unbelievable and my God is unchanging. What more can a girl ask for??
